Only selected tobacco from the prime locations from the best vintages and a potential for long-term maturation were taken into account in the selection. The tobacco ripening involved several fermentation processes, whereby bitter substances such as ammonia and tannins are broken down and the pure tobacco flavors are released. After more than 12 years of controlled storage and maturation, the skilled hands of experienced Torcedores completed their work. The Zanzibar cigar matured in the humidors of the Tabacalera Altagracia in Santiago de los Caballeros for another 10 years.
